2018 Renault Zoe Gets New R110 Electric Motor (80 kW)
The newly unveiled 2018 Renault Zoe features a new electric motor, dubbed the R110, that will provide the model with higher power and increased acceleration, according to a new press release.
To be more specific, the new 2018 Renault Zoe will feature an 80 kW electric motor, allowing for a large improvement in acceleration speeds (80-120 km/h; 50-75 mph). This 80 kW electric motor is 12 kW (16 horsepower) more powerful than the motor in the older R90 variant.
The press release provides more: “At lower speeds the R110 packs the same punch as the R90 from which it is derived thanks to the instant availability of peak torque of 225Nm, making ZOE as nimble as ever in urban areas.”
“The new R110 motor is the latest in Renault’s electric motor development and production strategy and is further evidence of its expertise as Europe’s number one electric vehicle manufacturer. The R110 has been created specifically by Renault — an evolution of the R90, developed in just 2 years — and is made at the Cléon plant in Normandy having been designed by engineers based at both the Renault Technocentre and Cléon. In addition to carrying over the R90’s outstanding energy efficiency, the R110 packs a combination of electrical machine- and power electronics-related innovations that have yielded an extra 12 kW with no increase in either weight or volume.”
In addition to the performance improvements, the 2018 Renault Zoe is also now available in Europe in a “dark metallic purple” body color that’s been dubbed “Aconite.” So, those that want a dark metallic purple Renault Zoe now have the option of getting one without going through a third party modification service.
Ordering for the new 2018 Renault Zoe with R110 electric motor will open in the UK in “spring” — with deliveries beginning in late summer, reportedly.
