Wouldn’t it be easy if you could find your way anywhere on this planet by simply remembering three easy words? Well, you can.

Which Three Words?

Depending on where you are and where you are going, three words can exactly pinpoint you anywhere on this planet, even in the middle of the ocean. A certain combination of three words can locate where you are anywhere in the world and can also get you to your destination. What3Words fine-combed the planet into a three-meter by a three-meter grid. Each of these three by three squares has a three-name combination. If you were to type ‘term.darken.moist’ on the company website, you would end up in New Zealand. But add an ‘s’ to the word terms and you are in France.

What3Words is a global addressing system that we humans can easily learn to use through a certain word association. But why trouble yourself when your trusty GPS or smartphone can handle almost all of these services? What3Words is practical at the human level. It’s easy to learn. There is no equation to understand. It’s just three words and you can find your way anywhere on this planet.

If you understand how the internet works and how computers and websites communicate with each other, you’ll know they use series of long repetitive numbers. We could all learn our daily IP address but why when a word like CleanTechnica.com gets us there without having to worry about the numbers. A global addressing system that relies on three simple words is ideal for many industries.

We’ve been test driving clean cars for well over a decade by now, and although the technology has increased nicely, and user interface and infotainment systems have somewhat evolved, but nowhere near as much as its potential. We felt Apple’s Car Play was a move in the right direction then, since it simply mirrors something we’re already familiar with. The What3Words platform has so many applications, such as with electric vehicles (EV) and autonomous vehicles (AV) needing to find a charging station or locate a place to meet.

Making Sense Of What Three Words & What It Could Mean For Us All

What3Words navigationWhat3Words is one of those perfect no-brainers you look back at thinking why didn’t I think of that? Although we didn’t, we do look forward to using this intelligent human friendlier technology instead of having to meet the needs of machines. Electric vehicle  (EV) drivers could use What3Words to easily to meet up at a charging EV station.

What3Words has already partnered with a few mobility OEMs, such as Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover, Audi, Next Future transportation (a company that focuses on autonomous vehicle (AV) modules), DXC Technology (which produces drone apps), and Navmii, a smart navigation and traffic app.

What we really want to know is will we be able to name places the way we have vanity plates? We could see this as being perfect. How about meeting us for drinks in spanner.royalty.catches?

In the meantime, catch up with What3Words on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
