Following on the successful electrification of 3 earlier bus routes in the region in partnership with China’s BYD, London’s Route 153 has now gone all-electric following the deployment of 11 new BYD ADL Enviro200EV single decker buses (10.8 meters each), according to an email sent to CleanTechnica.

This 4th London bus route to deploy BYD’s ADL electric buses completed the transition as of February 3rd, with the route’s intensive 6-day-a-week, 5am-to-11pm service now essentially emissions free.

Route 153, for those unfamiliar with it, runs from a terminal at Finsbury Park (the Northumberland Park Garage in Tottenham) all the way down to Moorgate in the city’s financial district — and is operated by Go-Ahead London on behalf of Transport for London.

The email provides some further details: “The new buses marked the transfer of the route to Go-Ahead from CT Plus. BYD has supplied the depot with its own-designed and manufactured charging points. The other 3 ADL BYD serviced London routes, all with Go-Ahead, are the 521 and 507 from Waterloo and the 360 from Camberwell. Other routes and operators will receive fleets of BYD ADL electric buses in the coming months following tender wins by the partnership.”

The UK Country Manager for BYD UK, Frank Thorpe, commented on the news: “The smooth switch on of our electric buses to operate another intensive London route is a testament to the strength of our overall offering — not just the proven and reliable buses themselves but of the back up and support of our partners in planning and installing the necessary equipment to make electric bus operation successful from day one.”

To date, BYD has now deployed all-electric bus fleets in London, Nottingham, and Liverpool in the UK, as well as many other places around the world, with a total of more than 14,000 electric buses reportedly being sold in 2017.

Expect to hear about more of the same over the coming years as BYD continues expanding its global operations.
