Over 100,000 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs Have Now Been Sold In Europe
More than 100,000 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) have now been sold in Europe — as of the end of 2017.
Very interestingly, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV now accounts for over 10% of the company’s sales in the European market — not bad for a model that could be seen as a stop-gap solution of sorts for electric vehicles (though, aided to a great degree by incentives in the Netherlands, Norway and the UK, it should be noted).
Notably, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been the best-selling PHEV in Europe since 2015 now — so, 3 years straight. It has also at times been the best selling plug-in vehicle in Europe.
Before moving on, it should also be noted here that after many years of delay (likely owing to battery supply issues and questions regarding the company’s future in the United States), Mitsubishi has now finally released the Outlander PHEV to the US. Owing to the delay, the model likely won’t sell as well as it might have otherwise, but going on our recent exclusive review of the Outlander PHEV, it’s still attractive enough that it will probably do well.
Moving on, here are the exact numbers (separated by country) with regard to Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV sales in Europe since the release back in 2013:
Top 10 European Markets | |
The United Kingdom | 34,108 |
The Netherlands | 25,399 |
Norway | 13,429 |
Sweden | 9,957 |
Germany | 6,743 |
France | 2,580 |
Spain | 1,941 |
Switzerland | 1,321 |
Portugal | 795 |
Belgium | 725 |
Grand Total in Europe: 100,097 units (Oct. 2013 to Dec. 2017)
As one can see, the countries that have seen the best sales are those that have been host to the best incentives … there’s a lesson to be drawn there.
