Budweiser, one of the world’s most recognizable beer names, is making a show of its commitment to its renewable energy targets by revealing that it will start attaching a 100% renewable electricity symbol on all Budweiser beers that are brewed with 100% renewable electricity.

Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInBev), Budweiser’s parent company, announced this week that all Budweiser beers that are generated with 100% electricity will come bearing the below symbol. Budweiser is committed to brewing all of its beers around the world with 100% renewable electricity by 2025, following the commitments of Anheuser-Busch InBev which has similarly committed to sourcing all purchased electricity from renewable electricity.

The label will accompany all Budweiser beers brewed in the United States starting in spring of this year. The US is the first country where its beers will be brewed with 100% electricity thanks to electricity purchased from the 290 MW (megawatt) Thunder Ranch wind farm in Oklahoma via a Power Purchase Agreement signed in September of last year.

The label will then start appearing on beers brewed around the world when their electricity sourcing reaches 100%.

“We know that climate change is an important issue for consumers, but they aren’t sure how their everyday actions can make a difference,” explained Brian Perkins, Global VP at Budweiser. “The renewable electricity symbol can show consumers that their purchasing choices can have a positive impact.”

With 41 million Budweisers sold on average every day around the world, the move to source 100% of its electricity needs from renewable energy sources will have the comparable effect of taking 48,000 passenger cars off the road every year. Budweiser has opened the way for other brands to adopt the symbol to help build a movement that will highlight the role companies are taking to reduce emissions and increase renewable electricity.

ABInBev, as the world’s largest brewer, is also one of the leading members of renewable energy campaign RE100, and in March of 2017 it committed to 100% renewable electricity by 2025. Today’s announcement drew praise from RE100’s creators, The Climate Group and CDP. Helen Clarkson, CEO of The Climate Group, said: “Leading companies know it makes business sense to switch to renewables and cut greenhouse emissions. But to deliver on the Paris Agreement, we need to go further and faster. I am delighted to see that Budweiser is taking a leading position on renewable electricity as part of AB Inbev’s commitment to going 100% renewable through the RE100 campaign.”
