On January 30, the #Fake President will regale the nation with his dystopian plan for America in the coming year. It is bound to include many exhortations to Drill, Baby, Drill in every available square inch of the country, including the continental shelf off both coasts. Coal will definitely be on the agenda, along with more fracking, more pipelines, more oil wells, more mountain top removal, more methane in the atmosphere, and more subsidies for nuclear power.

What you probably won’t hear very much about is renewable energy, clean skies and rivers, or modernizing the electric grid with storage opportunities and digital technology. Those are things only certified “Leave It In The Ground” treehuggers — like those who read CleanTechnica — care about. If they are mentioned at all, it will be in the footnotes.

Thanks to the power of The Action Network, Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org, will join with other progressive thinkers like Bernie Sanders, Varshini Prakash of the Sunrise Movement, and Reverend Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus the day after the SOTU diatribe to deliver their own state of the environment message to the world. Called Fossil Free Fast: The Climate Resistance, the event will be live streamed at 8:00 pm EST on January 31.

According to The Action Network website, “They will share stories on the urgency of the current political and climate crises, and light our path ahead: resist the Trump Administration’s ongoing attacks on our climate, build power towards the 2018 and 2020 elections, and secure the lasting change we need through local action. Together, we will end the use of fossil fuels and usher in the fast and just transition to 100% renewable energy for all.”

Many people are feeling alone and powerless in the age of ignorance personified by Donald Trump. What can one person do is a question often heard today. Those of us who care for the environment, care that our kids can play outdoors without gas masks, or care that America is leading the charge to burn every last molecule of fossil fuel left on the planet will find lots of other like minded souls participating in the online conversation on January 31.

You can join a group near you or form your own digital community to support Fossil Free Fast: The Climate Resistance. The  Action Network is like Kickstarter or GoFundMe, but with a twist. It is not about raising money. It is about providing a platform where those who want to promote progressive causes and social justice can go to further their goals.

We at CleanTechnica believe this is just the sort of thing many of our readers will want to participate in. You can organize your own Climate Resistance meet up. Go to the website to learn how. It would be fantastic to see CleanTechnica readers all around the world supporting this idea. Who’s in?
