How many weeks does it take to go from Tesla Model 3 configuration to delivery? Ah, yeah, I just told you in the title — 2 weeks, or precisely 14 days. This is based on a very scientifically sound survey and regression analysis of 1 customer. /s

All kidding aside, the above information did come from a known, trustworthy source who received delivery of his Tesla Model 3 just yesterday. He actually could have received it earlier (December 29), but it wasn’t a convenient time for him. And, yes, to clarify — the 14 day period was the period from completing configuration to the first possible delivery date, not the date nearly a week later when his schedule eventually matched up with Tesla’s.

What does this tell us? Since this is just one story, we can’t make any real generalizations, but it does imply Tesla had a bunch of Tesla Model 3 customer cars finished but waiting for some final inspections or slight fixes. Given the stage of production Tesla is at, it seems unlikely the full production, inspection, and correction process would take just 2 weeks.

Something we were told in Tesla’s monthly sales report yesterday is that Tesla had produced 2,425 Model 3 sedans in Q4 2017, whereas only 1,550 were delivered and 860 in transit (the one above being one of those). That said, 793 of those 2,425 cars were produced in just the last few days of the month. Will Tesla see 4,000 Model 3 deliveries in January? 3,000? 5,000? Take a guess!

In any case, we have one super happy new Model 3 owner today. CleanTechnica‘s chief electric car reviewer, Kyle Field, is also headed up to NorCal (from SoCal) today to test out the car and report back to CleanTechnica readers and viewers. Stay tuned!
