Renault #SOSBattery Campaign To Use Zoe EVs To Deliver Batteries To Londoners That Forgot To Buy Them
Following on the earlier #SantaGoesElectric marketing campaign in the UK, which used a Renault Zoe EV to deliver free chocolates to those who tweeted #SantaGoesElectric, Renault has launched a new campaign that will see a Zoe EV deliver batteries to those who forgot to purchase them … on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The new marketing campaign — dubbed #SOSBattery — is fairly simple to take part in. Those in London who are interested simply have to tweet #SOSBattery on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to (possibly) receive a free package of batteries delivered straight to their front door by an all-electric Renault Zoe.
Needless to say, the battery deliveries will be taking place without the direct release of any emissions, as the Renault Zoe doesn’t release any … being an all-electric car.
The press release provides more: “Every year hundreds of families across the country realize they’ve forgotten to purchase batteries for their children’s toys until it is too late. To avoid the inevitably fraught Christmas Day fishing out batteries from television remotes, clocks, and torches, a quick tweet to the @RenaultUK Twitter account stating #SOSBattery will deploy a driver to deliver a wide range of batteries to any home in London (inside the M25), for free.”
As would be expected, supplies are “limited” — so it sounds like those who want free batteries will have to be relatively quick on the draw. Also noteworthy here is that the new Renault Zoe EV features a real-world range of around 186 miles to 124 miles per charge (with the lower range boundary relating to extreme cold weather ranges) — presumably easily enough for a days worth of start-stop deliveries in the wider London area, but who can say for sure? Charging to 100% from a fully depleted battery pack reportedly takes about an hour.
In an only somewhat related reminder, the Renault Master ZE panel van is slated to be released in the UK (and in Europe as a whole) in 2018 — to join the currently available Renault Zoe EV car and Renault Kangoo ZE light-duty van.
