Electric bikes (e-bikes) are everywhere these days, and the quest for an affordable folding one can leave a sting in your wallet.
The folding electric MiniVelo+ plays the versatility card as its thing and the price isn’t bad at all.
Folding Electric VeloMini — Versatile E-Bike
We’ve covered a few folding e-bikes previously, the Gocycle here and Jolt there. The foldable electric VeloMini+ might look like a traditional folding e-bike, but it offers a lot of bang for your buck.
The mission of the company is straightforward. The VeloMini Plus wants to offer an e-bike that changes the way people bike with a versatile and user-friendly e-bike design. Portability, light weight, and electronics allow riders to choose from three ride modes. And the bike can even tow up to 50 lb with a trailer.
The VeloMini+ folds down into a 2 ft by 3 ft size. According to the company, it can accommodate riders over 6 ft. It can also easily be carried on public transit and obviously fits in the trunks of most cars. The rear rack can also be used as a stand to keep the bike upright on any flat surface.
The Folding Electric VeloMini+ — Technology & Security
Using a 24 volt 10 amp-hour 26650 lithium-ion battery pack, the VeloMini+ gets 18 miles of range with a top speed of 14 mph. It boasts an aluminum frame to keep the 29 lb. weight down and a 250W in-hub front-wheel motor. It rides on 16″ wheels with Kenda Kwest, 16″ x 1.5″. It uses caliper brakes as well.
The VeloMini+ can be bought with a TrackR Bravo. Using Bluetooth, the TrackR Bravo lets you keep track of your bike’s last known location as well as a great feature called the Crowd Locate. In case your VeloMini+ gets lost or stolen, it can be located by piggybacking off of other people’s TrackR devices. The TrackR website provides a live map of all the users on the network.
Folding Electric VeloMini+ Price & Final Thoughts
Folding e-bikes are a tough sell and usually end up costing a lot for the overall performance. The VeloMini+ comes in at a surprising $1,145.00, which, all things considered, makes it one of the most affordable out there.
The company isn’t very active on social media and the only link we found was on LinkedIn.
The VeloMini+ sounds like a good e-bike contender for daily commutes and first-mile to last-mile trips.
