Renault Trucks & Groupe Delanchy Unveil All-Electric Refrigerated Box Truck For Produce Deliveries

A new all-electric, refrigerated box truck designed for fresh produce delivery has been developed, and now unveiled, by Renault Trucks and Groupe Delanchy. The new zero-emission, 13-tonne experimental truck will be used by Groupe Delanchy to deliver fresh produce to France’s largest covered food market — Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse in Lyon.

(By the way, notice in some of those pics that they stole CleanTechnica’s tagline and added a hashtag.)

The all-electric truck is outfitted with a Carrier refrigeration unit and a Chereau temperature-controlled box — with all of the necessary power for operation coming straight from the truck’s battery pack.

Speaking about plans for the daily use of the truck, the idea is reportedly that the truck will deliver fresh produce and seafood from Groupe Delanchy’s distribution hub in Corbas to the suburbs of Lyon — from Lorient to Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, apparently.

“This partnership illustrates the robustness of the relationship we have with our customers,” commented Bruno Blin, President of Renault Trucks. “The inclusion of this vehicle in Groupe Delanchy’s logistics plan perfectly illustrates our vision for road freight transport, namely a high-performance diesel vehicle for long distance transport and a zero-emission vehicle to cover the final kilometers.” (Apparently, that either means Renault isn’t prepared to compete with the Tesla Semi or doesn’t think it can get the job done.)

The press release provides more: “This zero-emission truck is the ideal solution for maintaining air quality and reducing congestion in the city centre, because it allows noise-free deliveries to be made during anti-social hours, maintaining peace and quiet for residents. Because it produces no polluting emissions, this vehicle also helps maintain the area in which the operatives are working, the unloading dock at the Halles de Lyon, which is a confined space in the basement.”

While this news (and the new electric truck itself) represents mostly just an experiment, for the time being, it does also represent a sign of things to come — as noted by the Renault Trucks president above, the news “illustrates” the direction that the company intends to go with regard to future offerings. Perhaps it won’t be too long before the company releases something comparable commercially?

If you haven’t noticed, electric trucks are a hot item these days. For more on the topic, read through dozens of recent electric truck stories here on CleanTechnica.
