Zurich Confirmed As A Formula E Race Location

The all-electric racing series Formula E has confirmed the course that Zurich, Switzerland, will be hosting on June 10, 2018. The race will be quite a historic occasion. It will be the first time that circuit racing has taken place in Switzerland in more than 60 years. Circuit racing has been outright banned in the country since 1955, and there hasn’t been a race since 1954. A change in the law in 2015 removed the constraints on all-electric racing and opened a door for Formula E to step through.

Zurich is one of four new venues that have been added to the upcoming 2017/2018 calendar. Santiago, Sao Paulo, and Rome are all brand new Formula E locations for the next season. Adding these spots to locations such as Hong Kong, NYC, and Berlin really goes to show the global appeal and growth of the sport.

It has been a pretty incredible year for Formula E. Major car manufacturers such as Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz have all confirmed their future involvement in the series, and just last month Audi revealed its first all-electric Formula E vehicle at an event in Neuberg, Germany.

We’re also already thinking ahead to the 2018/2019 season, when a radical new car design will be introduced and the first generation of Formula E vehicles will be retired. The new cars will feature a battery pack that is double the size of the previous version, meaning that it will take one car instead of two cars to complete a race.

Season Four of Formula E kicks off on December 2 and 3 in Hong Kong. The next stages of the DLV Startup Contest will once again be running in tandem with a number of the races. We’ll have more details on that as it is announced. With all the new arrivals and new locations, it looks set to be the most exciting and interesting season yet.

The 2017/2018 race dates are as follows:

RACE 1 | 02 DEC 2017: HONG KONG, HK
