Hyundai Opens +100 Employee EV Charging Stations
Hyundai Motor America has now officially opened a network of over 100 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations to meet the needs of its employees in the area, according to a new press release from the US arm of the Korean company.
The move to provide its employees with reliable access to electric vehicle (EV) charging follows not too long after the release of the Hyundai Ioniq Electric, the Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), and the Hyundai Sonata PHEV, it should be noted.
The new Level 2 EV charging stations — comprising Hyundai’s “Charging Century” — are installed at the company’s LEED Gold certified office building.
“We’re very excited about taking this important next step in Hyundai’s evolving leadership in eco-focused mobility,” commented Michael O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning at Hyundai Motor America. “By allowing hundreds of our employees the opportunity to conveniently plug-in daily at work, our new headquarters has become a blueprint for zero-emissions corporate commuting throughout the nation.”
The move certainly does seem to signal to company employees that maybe they should be buying the company’s new electrified offerings as well, rather than just selling them to customers.
The press release provides a bit more information: “By providing convenient charging at work via a 113-charger Chargepoint network, many employees with a sub-25-mile commuting distance will be able to fully charge both at work and home during the week, minimizing fossil-fuel-based emissions and gas station visits on their daily commutes.”
On that note, and as a reminder, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric possesses an EPA range-rating of 124 miles per full-charge — with the upcoming model year of the offering expected to see its range increased significantly. With regard to the other options, the Hyundai Ioniq PHEV features an all-electric range of 27 miles per full-charge, as does the Sonata PHEV.
