Bernie Sanders Appears On Colbert And Talks Climate Change
It’s no secret that Vermont senator and former Democratic presidential nominee Bernie Sanders is a man that likes to fight the good fight. He built an incredible campaign and motivated a huge number of people to become politically engaged by pushing a mandate focused on addressing inequalities of many kinds. Now, during an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, he has revealed the strength of his support for clean energy and technology.
The interview with Colbert covered a lot of the ground you would expect, with Sanders speaking out in favor of universal health care, reduced college fees and an increase in the minimum wage. Sanders also mentions climate change as something that needs to be addressed, in stark contrast to the rhetoric of the current U.S. administration.
Colbert drew attention to the fact that Hillary Clinton would be on an upcoming show, and asked Sanders if there were any questions he would like pose to her when she’s in the chair. Sanders said he would like Clinton to join in “…taking on the fossil fuel industry so that we transform our energy system away from fossil fuel to energy efficiency and sustainable energy.” It’s a clear call to action, and shows just how high up the agenda clean energy is for the senator.
The continued popularity of Bernie Sanders is in some ways reminiscent of former presidential candidate Al Gore. Maybe in 10 years more people remember the climate activism and work of Gore than the policies of Bush. Perhaps Sanders will be remembered in the same way.
