Nissan’s most advanced electric vehicle ever, the Nissan BladeGlider sports car, was center stage at Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, supporting clean air and climate action at the same time that it was having a bit of fun. NISMO athlete Lucas Ordóñez was the first pro racing driver to experience the snazzy 3-wheel Nissan BladeGlider in a track session during the historic Goodwood Festival Of Speed.

One reason for the momentous appearance was that this marked the 70 year anniversary of the debut of Nissan’s first electric vehicle, the Tama.

Nissan’s electrifying work is an adventurous story that began in 1947. Nissan launched the Tama in that year as its first visionary entrance into e-mobility. The Tama was a four-seat EV available as a passenger car and a van. It offered customers a range of 65 km on a full charge. The Tama was developed by the Tokyo Electro Automobile Co., which Nissan later acquired.

Decades after the debut of the Tama in 1947, Nissan has now established itself as a zero-emission technology world leader. “It pioneered the EV revolution with the launch of world’s first mass-market 100% electric passenger car – the Nissan LEAF – in 2010,” Nissan writes. “The new second-generation LEAF will make its world premiere on 6 September.”

“Ordóñez, a former winner of Nissan’s GT Academy competition to turn computer gamers into racers,” expresses his feelings about the BladeGlider:

“Driving the BladeGlider round the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit has been a fantastic experience. It’s such an exciting car to drive, with so much torque from the moment you start. It’s great fun on a fast track like this, and so quick through the corners.”

“The BladeGlider was created to demonstrate the potential of a pure electric powertrain to satisfy the dynamic and performance needs of sports car enthusiasts,” Nissan adds. “It has been developed by Nissan in association with its technical partner for the project, UK-based Williams Advanced Engineering.”
