The London Taxi Company’s all-electric taxi has been tested intensely and over thousands of miles in both hot and cold climate endurance tests in the Arizona desert and Arctic Circle. This week, the zero emissions taxi prototype took on another first. On Thursday, June 29, one of London Taxi Company (LTC)’s all-new range-extended electric taxi test vehicles silently made the world-famous Goodwood Hillclimb.

The debut of the all-electric taxi was at the West Sussex motoring extravaganza. Another first, along with being the first all-electric taxi ever to feature on the famous “Hill,” is that it was the youngest female driver ever to take part in the Hillclimb event, 17-year-old Katie Milner.

CleanTechnica previously focused on the all-electric taxi prototype’s handling of the heat, “The London Taxi Company’s new range-extended electric black cab performs quite well in high heat conditions, as determined by recent comprehensive testing in Arizona, the company has revealed.” Now we get the security that the electric taxi can also climb hills quickly.

Milner is no stranger behind the wheel of this electric taxi. She was also “the fastest woman in the Ginetta championship, completing a trio of firsts for the London Taxi Company at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS).”

London Taxi Company says that it was to participate in the Goodwood Hillclimb “because of the taxi’s adaption of supercar manufacturing techniques,” adding that “LTC’s extensive use of light weighting means that LTC can get the maximum distance out of the electric battery without impacting the strength and safety of the vehicle.”

This new extended-range electric taxi from London Taxi Company will go on sale later in 2017, after becoming “the most comprehensively tested product in the company’s history.” Far more than one million test miles have been driven. “This is not just to meet the exacting standards of London’s cab drivers but the requirements of drivers and climates of cities all around the world.” In other words, this is a global product meant for markets far beyond London.
