Tesla Model 3 Spy Shots Flooding Internet (44 Pictures)

We are only weeks away from the promised start of production of the Tesla Model 3 and people across TwitterInstagram, and imgur are serving up a smorgasbord of photos of the car. More colors, more interior details, and more exterior features are being revealed every day. Let’s start with colors. Silver is apparently part of the initial color palette.

So are black and white.

Red and blue are in there, too.

For those concerned by multiple images of Model 3 wheels with their lug nuts showing, fear not — Elon has you covered.

Now let’s get to the really interesting stuff. Here are some photos that reveal details about the interior of the car. Doesn’t get much cleaner and less cluttered than this. Rumors of a heads-up display have been scotched by Elon Musk personally. It’s just the wheel, a few controls, and that horizontally mounted touch screen.

About those controls. The right stalk has a new setting, something never seen on a production car before. Can you spot it?

Yup. There it is at the bottom of the stalk. In addition to the normal Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive settings, there is one to engage Autopilot.

Bear in mind that this function won’t allow for full self-driving capability right at the start of production, but clearly Tesla is serious that every Model 3 made will be capable of driving itself once the software and government regulations permit. Elon says a Tesla will drive itself from LA to Manhattan with nary a nudge from a human driver later this year.

The roof design is clearly a work of art in its own right.

The big question for the past year has been whether Tesla would actually start production on time. It now appears it will. In fact, Ben Sullins of Teslanomics estimates the company will build more than 80,000 Model 3s before the end of 2017 — roughly the same number of Model S and Model X cars produced in all of 2017.
