Midwest EVOLVE Launches — 3-Year Project To Support EV Adoption In US Midwest
A new electric vehicle promotion effort was recently launched in the US Midwest by the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest in partnership with 8 Clean Cities coalitions.
This 3-year project, known as Midwest EVOLVE, will reportedly be working to educate consumers in the states of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota, and Minnesota about the benefits of plug-in electric vehicles, particularly with regard to performance and environmental benefits.
The means of doing so will reportedly be over 200 ride and drives + various types of showcases and events, all in brand-neutral settings. The first of these events are taking place in early/mid 2017.
“Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, due to their better batteries, decrease in cost, an increase in choice, and the rollout of charging infrastructure,” stated Lew Bartfield, president and CEO of the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest, at a news conference at the Chicago Auto Show. “These advanced, modern vehicles reduce emissions that contribute to climate change and smog, improving air quality and public health.”
“The Midwest is often overlooked as a market for electric vehicles,” Bartfield continued. “The goal of Midwest EVOLVE is to build awareness and visibility for the advantages of electric vehicles, and to help the Midwest rediscover the automobile again, this time with a plug.”
“There’s no better way to learn about the performance and environmental advantages of electric vehicles than personal experience,” Bartfield concluded. “By participating in existing major consumer events throughout the Midwest, hosting ride and drives, and conducting seminars, we are working with local Clean Cities coalitions to get the word out.”
It should probably be noted here that the Midwest EVOLVE educational program will be targeted at fleet buyers as well, rather than just at the general public and car dealerships.
Initial auto industry partners include GM, Ford, and Nissan.
