Another electric pickup truck was recently unveiled, this time at the EVVE Conference in Ontario. It’s an electric pickup that certainly sounds enticing, even though it isn’t completely clear at this point if the intent is commercial production.

The “Bison,” as it’s been dubbed, was revealed by Havelaar Canada, and was launched in partnership with the University of Toronto. The idea behind the electric pickup truck was reportedly to create a product suited to the relatively cold environment and rough weather of much of Canada.

The Bison electric pickup truck features a single-charge range of 186 miles, according to the project team, and 46 cubic feet of exterior cargo space + 18 cubic feet of lockable storage space.

“It uses an electronic vehicle dynamics management system, and is engineered to tackle steep off-road grades under a full load. It’s built upon a carbon fiber-reinforced steel space frame, and Havelaar promises ‘class-leading’ torsional stiffness,” Autoblog notes.

“Inside the cabin is a digital instrument panel, as well as a large, central touchscreen display reminiscent of that in a Tesla. Other details are still scarce, including price and production intent.”

So, going by the limited information revealed so far, it appears the Havelaar Bison is taking a somewhat different approach than Workhorse Group took with the Workhorse W-15 — which features a range extender to ensure the ability to function when needed, even after the battery pack has run dry.

As far as Tesla’s long-rumored electric pickup truck, we know very little about it at this point — though, it should probably go without saying that Tesla’s offering will be fully electric, like the Havelaar Bison apparently is.
