The first three consumer Opel Ampera-e for Norwegian customers have arrived in Norway, with these first three deliveries handed over to the owners by Opel’s Chairman and Managing Director for Norway, Bernt G. Jessen.

The deliveries actually represent the first Ampera-e delivered in the world, which is why it is so fitting that it happened in the country leading the way for EV adoption — Norway. With a broad range of incentives and widespread EV awareness in Norway driving a quick cutover of the vehicles in the country to electric, the affordable and long-range Ampera-e represents a revolution that enables the average citizen to afford a highly practical electric vehicle. The deliveries arrived in Norwegian national colors to celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day.

Norway is set up well for electric vehicles, with its snowcapped mountains providing year-round renewable hydroelectric power. Incentives were also stacked up in favor of electric vehicles, with no sales tax (normally a very high cost in the country), access to bus lanes and free parking, and abundant charging stations, the country has emerged as an early leader in the electric revolution. There are already more than 150,000 plug-in vehicles in Norway and more are on the way every day.

Leading up to the official start of deliveries in Norway, 4,000 people had placed deposits on the vehicle without having ever seen or driven it. While this is clearly not in the same ballpark as the estimated 400,000–500,000 reservations Tesla has secured for the Model 3 worldwide, it is a significant milestone in the country that is paving the way for electric vehicles for the rest of the world.

“I am delighted that we have been able to present the first three proud Ampera-e owners with their cars. The Ampera-e makes everyday electro-mobility feasible and is presently the car to beat in its segment,” said Opel Vice President Sales & Aftersales Peter Christian Küspert.

The first few customers were excited as well, with one noting that she already has big plans for the vehicle: “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, and I’m very excited,” said Bente Østreng from Oslo. She is the proud owner of the blue Ampera-e. “We are already looking forward to taking it for the first long journey to our cabin in Sweden.”
