This Is Yuuuge! Musk Retweets 350.org Climate March Video
Elon Musk has made many people unhappy because he is serving as an official adviser to the Trump maladministration whereas many of his Silicon Valley mega-billionaire pals have stayed away from the putative president as if he has the Bubonic Plague. In fact, Doug Derwin, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, is spending $2 million of his own money to call Musk out for his embrace of Trump by taking out full page ads in the national press and trolling Musk with rolling billboard trucks outside SpaceX and Tesla headquarters. So, how does Elon feel about the 350.org Climate March on Washington, DC, today?

Lest anyone have any fears about where Musk’s true feelings lie, they were put to rest today. This is the day that Bill McKibben and 350.org asked people to march in Washington to show their solidarity with government policies that protect the environment. 350.org tweeted a video a short while ago showing massive crowds at the event. Soon afterwards, Musk retweeted it without comment.
His decision not to add anything to the 350.org tweet is understandable. Musk’s various companies derive a lot of financial benefit from doing business with the government. SpaceX is scheduled to launch a super secret spy satellite for the Air Force on Sunday and the company is very interested in getting more of the government’s space launch business.
He is also advising Trump and his minions on infrastructure policy, telling economic adviser Gary Cohn he will soon be able to bore tunnels underground across America to finally solve traffic congestion. Musk’s latest commercial enterprise, The Boring Company, posted a video on YouTube Friday showing how those tunnels might use electrified pallets to whoosh cars through subterranean transportation corridors at speeds up to 124 miles per hour.
Tesla has reacted strongly to Doug Derwin’s anti-Trump campaign. It issued a statement last week that said, “It’s quite ironic that the reason being given for attacking Elon is to help the environment. Tesla’s entire reason for existing is to accelerate the advent of sustainable energy. If someone wants to spend money to promote a pro-environment objective, we can think of better ways to do that than attacking the people who are most committed to that very purpose. Mr Derwin believes those who want a more sustainable future should not have a seat at the table. We obviously disagree.”
Today is the hottest April 29 in Washington, DC, on record, but that hasn’t kept enthusiastic climate supporters from marching and making their voices heard. Trump, of course, is on vacation, as he finds being president is much harder than he ever imagined — even harder than being a reality TV host, if you can believe such a thing. But the people who inhabit the halls of Congress have to be paying attention to the masses of people streaming by outside and thinking about their own re-election chances. Given the mood of the crowd and the country, they have every reason to be concerned.
