The Tesla Model X was recently named by the Automobile Association of America (AAA) as the top overall pick in its 2017 Green Car Guide — with the all-electric SUV offering from Tesla besting all of the other EVs, hybrids, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) offerings out there.

In total, the Tesla Model X was chosen ahead of 64 other vehicles tested — which included EVs, PHEVs, hybrids, and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, as well as “high fuel economy” internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

We can’t say we’re too surprised about the Model X win, as the vehicle won the 2016 CleanTechnica Car of the Year award and received glowing reviews from Kyle Field and Zach Shahan.

As would expected since it was chosen as the top overall pick, the Tesla Model X was also chosen as the top SUV pick. In addition to this, the Tesla Model S 60 sedan was chosen as the winner of the “large car” segment.

CNBC provides a bit more information: “AAA uses a collection of quantitative measures to evaluate cars, said Greg Brannon, director of Automotive Engineering for AAA, in an interview with CNBC. Criteria include ride quality, safety, and performance, and cars are test-driven on AAA’s test track in southern California.”

While Tesla won the overall and SUV picks with the Model X, and the large car pick with the Model S, the other 4 categories were each won by a different manufacturer.

The subcompact category was won by the Chevy Bolt EV, the compact category was won by the Volkswagen’s e-Golf SE, the pickup category was won by the Ford F-150 XLT Super Crew, and the midsize car category was won by the Lexus GS 450 F Sport.
