Tesla Launches In Jordan
Following the company’s recent launch in the United Arab Emirates (which we scooped one month early), Tesla has now officially entered Jordan, according to an email sent to CleanTechnica.
What that means in practice, is that those living in Jordan who want to purchase a Model S sedan or a Model X SUV can do so directly, rather than going through the time-consuming and costly process of self-importing. Incidentally, due to odd auto dealership laws, there are a handful of states in the USA where consumers can’t do this, but they now can in the UAE, Jordan, and many other countries.
The entrance into Jordan’s market is no doubt connected to the upcoming release of the Tesla Model 3 — the company’s “affordable” long-range electric sedan, which will compete against the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, etc. Presumably, Tesla has received a fair number of Model 3 reservations in Jordan.
The email provides more: “After Tesla’s launch in the United Arab Emirates last month, Jordan has been chosen to offer Tesla vehicles due to the country’s extensive interest and support for electric vehicles. Last year, the Jordanian government made strong commitments to sustainable transportation. This, along with other interest from pioneering owners who have already imported Model S and Model X vehicles into the region, has highlighted a strong demand for the brand.”
As is typical of Tesla, the company will show off its clean, quick, electric offerings in a high-end mall in the country. “The web launch is supported by a pop-up shop in the Taj Lifestyle Center, allowing visitors to learn about Tesla vehicles in an engaging and low-pressure sales environment. Tesla’s approach is to educate guests to ensure they understand the benefits of Tesla ownership.”
Tesla will reportedly begin delivering the first Model S and Model X ordered in Jordan sometime this summer.
The email to CleanTechnica noted that Tesla has to date opened 8 Destination charging locations and 4 Supercharger locations “in the region.”
