Base Lucid Air To Begin At $60,000

It looks like earlier reports (that we covered at the time) that the Lucid Air will be priced around $100,000 weren’t completely accurate. It turns out that pricing for the base Lucid Air will actually begin at $60,000, reportedly.

That means when the federal tax credit is factored in that pricing begins as low as $52,500 (or lower if you’re in a state with a tax rebate or credit).

It should be noted here, though, that the base model doesn’t have doors or a trunk. Okay, just kidding, but it surely isn’t the 1,000 horsepower offering that the company has been making a show of in recent weeks (see two of our recent exclusives: The Lucid Motors Air Is Amazing! and The Lucid Motors Air Wipes The Competition!).

Presumably, the base model will look the same as higher-trim versions and will still be fairly high powered. The base model will, according to the company, still possess a range of 240 miles and 400 horsepower.

So, it appears that Lucid Motors has decided to try to undercut the Tesla Model S on pricing (by a bit). However, considering that the base Lucid Air won’t be hitting the market for a few years (presuming everything goes well), it’s not clear how much this will matter. After all, what will the Tesla Model S even look like 3 or so years from now? Who knows? It could be quite different by then. And the cost could certainly come down a bit.

Autoblog provides more: “The company also says that the base Air comes with the hardware necessary for autonomous driving, 32 cu. ft of cargo space from two trunks, 12-way power seats, a 10 speaker sound system, LED headlights and lots of touch screens. For comparison, the Model S 60 makes 382 hp and gets a claimed 219 miles of range.” Again, though, that’s today’s Tesla Model S.

“It is possible to spend much more on a Lucid Air if you’d like. The company will offer optional batteries and motors with ranges of 315 miles and 400 miles. In addition, you’ll be able to add a dual-motor powertrain capable of around 1,000 horsepower, a glass roof, reclining rear seats, a 29-speaker sound system, and 22-way power front seats with heating, cooling, active bolsters and massage. Lucid says that opting for all of these items will send the price to over $100,000.”

As we reported previously, the Launch Edition of the Lucid Air (a limited run of 255) will cost around $165,000. And Nicolas Zart covered many of the details above — and more — in his two review articles for CleanTechnica, which are at the top of the list below.
