Vattenfall Plans 16-Turbine Expansion To Aberdeenshire Wind Farm
Swedish power company Vattenfall has announced that it is seeking approval to move forward and expand the Clashindarroch Wind Farm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, by 16 wind turbines.
We normally don’t cover small wind farms or expansions here at CleanTechnica — primarily because there are just so many of them these days, and we would forever be posting short stories from all over the world. The Clashindarroch Wind Farm is a 36.9 megawatt (MW) onshore wind farm in the Scottish region of Aberdeenshire was granted approval in 2010, and has been generating clean electricity since the beginning of 2015.
Vattenfall’s desire to expand the Clashindarroch Wind Farm to include an additional 16 currently-unspecified wind turbines (though given the pace of onshore wind turbine development it is safe to assume that the wind turbines might be in the 3 MW to 4 MW range) fits in nicely with its current onshore wind farm offerings across the United Kingdom.
“Vattenfall’s Clashindarroch Wind Farm has been successfully generating clean, green electricity for 18 months now,” said Andrew Bennett, Vattenfall’s Project Manager. “On the back of this success, we would like to build further wind turbines in the Clashindarroch Forest area.
“Clashindarroch II will provide the local community with the chance to own part of the wind farm in addition to having a community benefit fund to invest locally.”
What is particularly interesting, however, is that Vattenfall is the company behind offshore wind farm that has been the target of now-US President Donald Trump’s attacks over the past few years — despite his losing out in the UK Supreme Court in his bid to halt construction of the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm (AOWFL), also known as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) — but the new expansion is only 42 miles (67 kilometres) west of Trump International Golf Links — Donald Trump’s golf course that he believes has been spoiled by views of the offshore wind farm.
Further, Donald Trump at the beginning of the year managed to ensure that he would be able to expand his golf resort, including a second golf course.
I’m not saying that Vattenfall is out to get Donald Trump, nor that 42 miles is even necessarily within viewing distance — or that guests would have to drive past the wind newly-expanded wind farm to arrive at Donald Trump’s golf resort.
But it’s interesting nevertheless, don’t you think?
