In a leaked email to company employees, Tesla CEO Elon Musk provided a point-by-point rebuttal of the claims made recently by production worker Jose Moran (who Musk has claimed is a plant for the United Auto Workers union and hasn’t worked for the company for long).

The email follows an internal investigation, apparently, one which Musk said disproved the allegations and the conditions claimed by Moran.

For some background here, Moran had claimed in a post on Medium that pay was low and that mandatory overtime was resulting in injuries that wouldn’t have occurred otherwise.

Musk’s email noted that employees actually come out well ahead of other auto workers in the US when equity granted to employees is factored in (the equivalent of $70,000 to $100,000 more in total compensation), and also that the United Auto Workers (UAW) union was acting on behalf of the auto manufacturing industry.

Engadget puts it this way: “Musk also criticized the UAW, claiming the union’s true allegiance is to the ‘giant car companies, where the money they take from employees in dues is vastly more than they could ever make from Tesla.’ He went on to portray Tesla as a small company beset by larger influences: ‘The forces arrayed against us are many and incredibly powerful. This is David vs Goliath if David were six inches tall!'”

The email from Musk also noted that overtime at the Fremont plant had decreased by 50% over the last year, and was being continually reduced.

On a somewhat lighter note, Musk also said that in addition to plans for a big Model 3 production milestone party, the Fremont plant would also soon be getting an electric pod car roller coaster and free frozen yogurt stands. Sounds interesting.
