Growing up on a rural farm, Jonathan Scott was raised to respect the environment and understand the importance of preserving it. It’s a commitment he has carried into adulthood. The Property Brothers star is a vocal supporter of renewable energy, particularly home-based solar, which he often incorporates into the homes he designs.

Indeed, Scott describes installing solar panels on his own home in Nevada as a “no-brainer.”

The HGTV star was a special guest on 24 Hours of Reality: The Road Forward last month and explained to co-host Sarah Backhouse why he is so committed to solar power. Check it out:

Although Scott’s experience building homes has been primarily in North America, he’s quick to point out climate change isn’t a problem that only Americans face. “This isn’t just an issue that has to be resolved in America or North America – it’s global. … That’s why it really is a conversation that everyone has to have together.”

Scott has recently written a documentary series on the energy landscape in North America, with an emphasis on solar, which will be completed later this year. And he is particularly attuned to the many myths about renewables spread by climate deniers and fossil fuel proponents.

“It was unfortunate that misinformation was being pumped to the consumer,” Scott said when discussing the “solar crash” in Nevada, “and that’s why I became an advocate for [solar].”
