Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Exploring Possibility Of Slovakia/Czech Republic Route
The Hyperloop technology startup Hyperloop Transportation Technologies has signed a new agreement that will see it explore the possibility of developing a Slovakia to Czech Republic route that would pass through Brno, Bratislava, and Prague, according to recent reports.
This news follows earlier announcements that the company had secured agreements to builds Hyperloop systems in Bratislava and in Abu Dhabi.
The CEO of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Dirk Ahlborn, commented: “Since we have solved all the technical issues, it is now crucial for us to collaborate with governments around the world. It is critical for Hyperloop to be working directly with regulators at this stage of development, new rules and frameworks will need to be written as we begin building out systems in Slovakia, the Emirates, and several others to come.”
Tech Crunch provides more:
“HTT recently claimed to raise $100 million to get it up to speed — though a large majority of that was counted in in-kind investments such as volunteer labor and services from outside firms. The startup pulled in approximately $31 million in real cash. …
“The Czech agreement will take some time to both determine feasibility and to build such a system, but could theoretically relieve some of the strain on Brno’s train system, which is one of the oldest railway stations in the Czech Republic (and one of the first in the world), shuttling more than 50,000 passengers on a daily basis, according to Wikipedia.”
Interesting news, though I still remain very skeptical of the Hyperloop technology as a whole. Presuming that Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is serious in its efforts, though, and this is not simply an elaborate scheme of some sort, then I won’t object too much. Despite the question of the technology making sense commercially (financially), it would still be quite interesting to see it in action.
