The President of the United States has chosen to eviscerate environmental protections and climate change research in the name of promoting American business. His America First Energy Plan advocates opening federal lands to fossil fuel companies for coal mining, oil drilling, and fracking operations.

He proposes to withdraw from the commitments the US made to the other nations of the world in the Paris climate accords of December, 2015. He intends to cut off funds to NASA that are used to support climate research.

No matter how you slice it, Donald Trump’s proposals are a disaster for environmentalists, which is basically anyone who doesn’t want to see our planet turned into a cold, dead cinder incapable of supporting human life.

But what can people do to push back against this concerted campaign of lunacy? You can’t fight city hall, can you? Actually, maybe you can. On April 30, a new movie entitled Disobedience will be released. The producers describe it as “a new film about a new phase of the climate movement: courageous action that is being taken on the front lines of the climate crisis on every continent, led by regular people fed up with the power and pollution of the fossil fuel industry.”

Interested people can screen the film for themselves and their friends by downloading it from the internet. This is the perfect opportunity to organize a local event to raise awareness about climate change activities. It can also bring together small groups of people so they can see they are not alone in their desire to see progressive environmental policies enacted that protect all citizens of the world.

If you would like to host a screening of Disobedience, there is a link on the film’s website that lets you do precisely that. The producers will even help you publicize the screening so people in your community can participate as well.

If you want other suggestions for how you can fight junk science and fake climate research, consider making a donation to any one (or all!) of these organizations:

Don’t be discouraged by the idiocy issuing from Washington. Empower yourself. Get involved. Take action. The earth needs every one of us to make our voice heard — while there is still time.
