The Ecoisme intelligent home energy monitor, which is claimed to be able to help homeowners reduce their electrical consumption by up to 15%, is now available for pre-order at a discounted price.

We covered the initial crowdfunding campaign from Ecoisme back in 2015, when the company was looking to launch its product to consumers, and while that Indiegogo campaign was successful, Ecoisme only managed to raise just under $70,000 and attract orders for some 400 units through it. In a world where devices like gadgetized coolers raise millions in crowdfunding, the success by Ecoisme is rather modest, but now the company is looking to launch its product outside the crowdfunding ecosystem via pre-orders on its own website.

The Ecoisme device, which comes in two flavors — the basic model and one which also monitors the home’s solar output — attaches to the home’s breaker box via a non-wired connection (a clamp around the mains cable) that measures the electrical current flowing through it. It then uses machine learning algorithms to detect and analyze electric consumption of home appliances and other electrical demand, and connects to an accompanying app that allows users to monitor both the electrical consumption and the estimated costs for that usage, as well as display alerts and energy management tips.

“Ecoisme is a monitoring system that allows users take active roles in managing their bills. By detecting major home appliances, solar and grid energy, Ecoisme helps owners keep track of their resources and save up to 15% on their energy bills. When integrated with other IoT devices, Ecoisme can manage them according to the local tariffs and user habits. But the benefits don’t end there. By monitoring electricity usage of your major appliances and by applying its machine learning algorithms Ecoisme can predict when an appliance is likely to fail. This can have you better prepared and save even more money.”

For those with a home solar array, the Ecoisme + Solar model connects to “most major solar inverters” to also monitor the home’s solar electricity generation and help users better understand when grid electricity is being used, and by what appliances, so as to inform them “when it’s a perfect time to use, store or sell” their solar output.

The system is also said to be compatible with other IoT (Internet of Things) devices, so it should allow for the integration of existing smart home devices, and it works with both 220V and 110V systems, as well as a variety of configurations (50 & 60 hz, single phase, triple phase, and split-phase).

EDF is said to have voted the Ecoisme system as “the best smart living innovative product,” and according to the company, it has “signed a partnership with Dubai Water and Electricity Authority” to monitor domestic solar energy production and electricity consumption in the city.

Ecoisme is currently offering discounted pricing on pre-orders of the basic model at $200 ($300 regular price) and the +Solar model at $300 ($400 regular price). More information is available at the company website.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
