Following close on the heels of the news of a new Model X Easter egg for Model X owners, Elon Musk dropped news of two more Christmas bonuses for owners of the S and the X. These two new surprises seem to work in all models of the S and X, which can’t be said for most of the previous Easter eggs.

As a 2013 Tesla Model S owner, I have missed out on most of the previous Tesla Easter egg fun so I was excited that both of these worked in my Model S. Rolling the first egg into my Model S changed my location on the map to Mars and overlaid a martian landscape in place of the normal boring earth map. In place of the normal arrow indicating my location on the map, the Mars Curiosity Rover roamed the roads.

Hilariously, this mod stuck around even when I attempted to navigate when I comically requested the car “navigate to earth” which it interpreted to be Earth, Texas. The navigation software legitimately looked up the full path to my destination from my home in southern California but showed the overview of the navigation instructions on the map of the surface of Mars.

Changing the vehicle name to 42 taps into Elon’s long time love for Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series by changing the name of the vehicle to “Life, the Universe and Everything” which is the third book in the series.

Adding to the fun, the “My Vehicle” screen that pops up when you just hit the Tesla “T” at the top of the screen no longer shows a Tesla Model S or X but instead shows the new Space X Interplanetary Transport System which it revealed back in September.
