Electra Meccanica exec Jerry Kroll recently sent out an email that provided some interesting new data points regarding the firm’s SOLO all-electric 3-wheeler. That included the comment that the firm had now received more than 350 reservations and deposits since the reveal of the SOLO on September 9th.

Another interesting bit of information that was revealed in the email was that the first pre-production SOLO has now passed the 2,000 kilometers of road testing milestone — which has apparently been accomplished in part by the Electra Meccanica exec taking the pre-production SOLO on early morning drives through the mountains north of Vancouver, British Columbia (the firm’s base of operations).

With regard to those trips, Kroll noted that the “car is performing as well as the test chassis did before it, and is much more comfy having a cabin, heating, stereo and windshield!”

The email provides more: “Pre-production SOLO 2 (red) is being completed for Federal Compliance testing for North America and around the world. The red colour is gorgeous, for those of you who chose that! There will be an additional centre mounted headlight for US compliance (3 wheel motorcycle category) that looks so nice we will make it an option for everyone to consider. It looks a bit like the classic Ford Torino hood scoop, but with lights. I’m ordering that on my own SOLO for sure, as more lights are always a good thing. I am pleased to show you the initial image below, and we’ll have full renderings and actual photos available before anyone needs to make a decision. Non-US customers can still order the SOLO as it is now without the centre light.”

The production team is apparently still working on the build schedule for 2017, but there don’t appear to be any snags from the sound of it.

Also notable is that the company is apparently planning to take some SOLOs out on frozen lakes in the area in February, if the weather gets cold enough. That should provide some verification of performance in such conditions. The batteries being used are apparently rated down to -35° Celsius.

The company will be hosting an open house at its headquarters in Vancouver on December 15 (4:00 to 8:00 pm), so those with a reservation may want to check things out if in the area.
