Denmark’s offshore wind giant DONG Energy announced this week that it is the first company to have surpassed installing 1,000 offshore wind turbines at sea.

Further, the company also intends to continue its leadership, installing more offshore wind capacity between 2016 and 2020 than it built in its preceding 25 years of business.

“In the space of only a few years, offshore wind has evolved from being a niche technology to being recognised as a reliable and clean energy source supplying power on utility scale and playing an important role in the green transformation of the energy sector,” said Senior Vice President Anders Lindberg, who is responsible for the construction of offshore wind farms at DONG Energy. “With 1,000 offshore wind turbines, we have a unique level of experience and routine at constructing and operating ‘power plants’ at sea, and this is crucial to ensuring that we can continue to reduce the costs of green electricity from offshore wind.”

DONG Energy’s 1000th offshore wind turbine was commissioned at the German offshore wind farm, Gode Wind 2, one of many offshore wind farms that the company owns in Denmark, the UK, and Germany. By the end of 2015, DONG Energy had installed offshore wind farms worth a total of 3 GW, with approximately 3.7 GW worth of future development already in the pipeline.

We’ve been covering DONG Energy for several years now, during which time the company has slowly transitioned into focusing almost exclusively on the development of offshore wind. Following are the lists of wind farms DONG Energy is currently operating or has in various stages of construction:
