Tesla Kicks Off New Referral Program For Owners

Tesla is well known for not offering any discounts on new vehicle purchases, which feels unnatural when you think about the typical experience of buying a new car and having to negotiate everything (while still leaving and feeling like the dealership got the better end of the deal). Tesla carries this policy all the way to the top, even requiring CEO Elon Musk, celebrities, and our very own local superstar, Zachary Shahan, Director of CleanTechnica to pay full retail price for a new Tesla.

The upshot is that everyone really does pay the same price and everyone can walk away feeling good about that … including Tesla, which earns a very predictable stream of income from the vehicles without having to worry about fluctuations in income due to variable pricing.

Having said that, there is one exception that Tesla has consistently made, and that’s a referral program. Utilizing a referral link (available on the Tesla Mobile App and from the “My Tesla” dashboard) to purchase a Tesla garners a $1000 USD / €750 discount  off of a new Tesla Model S or Model X. In return, the owner can earn prizes at predetermined referral milestones (listed below). The grand prize is currently a new Tesla Model X.

The most recent campaign kicked off on October 16, 2016, and runs through January 15th, 2017. If you’re considering buying an S or X, feel free to use my link to save $1000 / €750 and to help me win one of the cool prizes, like the Q&A with Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s Chief Designer, which would be awesome!

In addition to the new promotion, Tesla has been hard at work on the consumer dashboard, recently adding the “My Documents” section for Model 3 reservation holders (Click on “View Profile” to see it), indicating that all the pieces of the purchase process are coming together behind the scenes in preparation for the first deliveries late next year.
