MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has been selected as the preferred wind turbine supplier for the 252 MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind project being developed in Germany by owner British Wind Energy.

vestas-offshore-1The news, announced in late September, states that MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, the offshore wind-oriented company created by Vestas Wind Systems A/S and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD back in 2014, would be the preferred supplier to the 252 MW project, specifically supplying its V164-8.0 MW turbines for the 252 MW Deutsche Bucht project in Germany.

“We are pleased with the process and the outcome of this tender for the wind turbine package and to appoint MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as the preferred supplier,” announced Albert Jochems, CEO of Deutsche Bucht. “We have seen keen interest by the wider industry in the Deutsche Bucht project owing to it being one of the few remaining projects in Europe with a grid connection, permit and a feed in tariff without the need to participate in an auction. We look forward to working closely with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and our other partners to make every success of this exciting project.”

Expected to be completed in 2019, Offshore Wind Farm Deutsche Bucht is owned by British Wind Energy, the company set apart by Highland Group Holdings, an investment vehicle owned by Lord Laidlaw of Rothiemay, who also owns a majority share in the 400 MW offshore wind farm Veja Mate.

“Being nominated for our second project in Germany underlines the strength of the V164-8.0 MW as a competitive turbine for the market, where distance from the coast and deeper waters demands a larger and more powerful machine,” added Jens Tommerup, CEO of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. “Furthermore, our long term full scope service offering will ensure maximised output at the site, optimising the business case for British Wind Energy and making offshore wind power even more affordable.”
