London Underground Is Latest Business To Join EnerNOC’s Demand-Side Response Network

July 18th, 2016 by

demand-responseThe energy intelligence software and demand response solutions firm EnerNOC has announced that the London Underground has agreed to join the firm’s demand response network, according to an email sent to CleanTechnica.

The inclusion means that the London Underground will now be taking part in demand-response programs that pay electricity users for their participation in efforts to stabilize the grid during periods of peak and unstable demand. Such efforts work to maintain affordable rates for the general customer population.

“Participating in demand-side response is good for London Underground, providing an easy way for us to earn money by using our existing infrastructure. More importantly, it helps us in our mission to be a responsible corporate citizen and provide a benefit to all of the customers we serve,” stated Russell Fleetwood, London Underground Generation Manager.

“Demand-side response is a win-win scenario for businesses in the UK. Companies earn money for their participation and consumers at large benefit from a more cost effective and reliable power grid. EnerNOC’s demand side response software helps businesses manage their participation to maximize potential earnings and, as the largest demand side response provider in the world, we can help ensure that participation is seamless,” commented Patrick Liddy, Director UK and Ireland at EnerNOC.

Notably, the London Underground is actually the largest electricity consumer in all of London, and possesses the biggest private power network in the whole of the UK.
