The GPS navigation firm Sygic and the route optimization firm Route Monkey have entered into a new partnership that will see the joint development of a fully integrated optimization and navigation platform for electric vehicles, according to recent reports.
The platform will be used as a means of combining Route Monkey’s ability to optimize whole fleets of electric vehicles (EVs) or internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and Sygic’s GPS navigation products and apps. When combined, “best routes” for whole fleets and individual drivers can be determined, and individual drivers can receive their specific itineraries directly through the Sygic Navigation app. Electric vehicle charging station stops can be scheduled as part of the itineraries as well.
The CEO of Route Monkey, Colin Ferguson, commented: “Navigation tools for EV users have been around for a few years now. However, our integrated solution takes this concept to a whole new level. By partnering with Sygic, we can optimize an entire fleet, including EVs, plus provide navigation that is specifically tailored to EVs within that fleet.”
Route Monkey’s current EVOS solution utilizes complex algorithms to determine the impact of a variety of different factors (average speed, payload, topography, temperature, driving style, etc.) on an EV’s range capabilities. The partnership will see this capacity integrated into Sygic Professional Navigation — which is currently used by over 1,500 fleets worldwide.
The Director of Sygic Business Solutions, Martin Strigac, commented: “Based on our research and analysis, mixed fleets consisting of EVs and conventional vehicles will soon play an important role in fleet telematics. In combination with our Sygic Professional Navigation and Sygic FleetWork the planning, driving and operational management of EVs will be much easier, more efficient and transparent.”
