Tesla Model S In The Running For Next LEGO Car Model

If you’re a fan of Lego models, and a fan of the Tesla Model S, you make want to head over to the Lego ideas page and vote on this Lego Tesla project. If the model gets all the way to 10,000 votes, it will be considered for addition into the official Lego pantheon!
Lego has a recent history of approving some pretty obscure enthusiast machines. Most recently, the company gained our readership’s approval by announcing an official Caterham 7, an OG Mini Cooper, and a McLaren P1 Hybrid. If they approved a Tesla?
Well, I can’t speak for you guys, but I’d buy one.
What do you guys think? Sure, the model will need to be massaged a bit before it’s ready for prime time, but the general idea of a brick-built Tesla is a good one, no? Check out the video and “official” model builder’s features list, below, then let us know what you think of the idea in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
Lego Tesla Model S Features:
- Hood opens to reveal frunk (front trunk), with included suitcase
- Swooping roofline with panoramic sunroof
- Front doors open
- Front door handles slide out and in
- Front seats recline
- Front center armrests slide back to reveal cup holders
- Rear hatch opens
- Optional 3rd row children’s seat folds out
- Custom decals on front, sides, rear, and interior
- And, just like the real car, it doesn’t burn a drop of gasoline!
I wanted to make a Model S that is both nice to look at and very playable. I have an 8-year-old son who I wanted to be happy playing with this as much as I was looking at it on the shelf. I estimate it as having around 700 pieces, but optimization could probably reduce that somewhat. Also, while I like the Model S in gray as shown, red would be another great color for it.
The Tesla Model S is an amazing car, and it deserves a proper Lego model. Please consider adding your support so LEGO will bring us one. And, if this project gets 1,000 votes, I will add a Tesla Supercharger (charging station) to the set.
