Siemens has received an order for 714 MW worth of wind turbines for the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.

Siemens announced Wednesday that it had received an order for 102 of its 7 MW turbines, each with a rotor diameter of 154 meters, for the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm being developed off the British east coast. ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of Iberdrola S.A., placed the order.

The East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm is expected to become operational in 2020, at which point it will generate the equivalent electricity necessary to power around 500,000 British households. Installation of the 102 SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines is expected to commence in the summer of 2019.

Mit 714 Megawatt wird das Windkraftwerk das bislang größte Projekt für Siemens hinsichtlich der installierten Leistung. The 714 megawatt wind power plant will be the largest project in terms of capacity for Siemens so far.

“Siemens is delighted to work with ScottishPower Renewables on the East Anglia ONE offshore wind power plant,” said Michael Hannibal, CEO Offshore of the Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division. “This represents the largest single order ever for our direct-drive, 7-megawatt wind turbine. The decision to go with our innovative wind turbines underscores the contribution made by these units to reducing the costs of offshore wind power.”

East Anglia ONE will be developed 45 kilometers off the British east coast, and cover an area of approximately 300 square kilometers.

The news comes only a couple of days after Siemens was also awarded a 385 MW contract for the Arkona Offshore Wind Farm being developed by E.ON and Statoil in the German Baltic Sea.
