Panasonic Joins Solliance’s Perovskite R&D Project

The Japanese electronics giant Panasonic, a 2015 Zayed Future Energy Prize winner, has joined the Solliance perovskite solar research and development project — which aims to develop a scalable roll-to-roll production process for perovskite solar cells, amongst other things.

The Japanese company joined the European research and development project in order to conduct feasibility studies in order to ascertain the possibility of producing roll-to-roll perovskite solar cells on the commercial scale.

The Solliance perovskite solar cell research and development project is based at the group’s production facilities in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, and also at imec’s facility in Belgium, in Leuven.

As alluded to above, the research is commercially focused — bringing economical perovskite solar cells to the market being the intended outcome.

The director of Solliance, Huib van den Heuvel, commented that Panasonic’s input will strengthen the research project’s hand — with cooperation and cross-collaboration helping to move things along.

Panasonic rep Toshihiro Higuchi noted: “Solliance’s roll-to-roll pilot production infrastructure and the know-how related to perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is world class.”

The research partnership currently includes imec, TNO, ECN, TU/e, Holst Centre, University Hasselt, Delft University of Technology, and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
