The German utility company E.ON will be partnering with the Dresden-based company Solarwatt GmbH for the development and release of modular energy storage systems based on the Solarwatt MyReserve battery technology, according to a recent press release from Solarwatt.

SolarWattThe first models of the new offering are expected to be released in Germany over the next couple of months.

Considering that E.ON’s domestic marketplace features more than 1½ million private rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, there’s obviously a huge opportunity for home energy storage system providers. An opportunity that the Solarwatt MyReserve battery — designed specifically for home use: user-friendly app, an expandable design, etc — seeks to take advantage of.

“An increasing number of customers want to become more energy autonomous,” stated E.ON management board member Bernhard Reutersberg. “Together with Solarwatt we can offer them a complete solution that fits their individual needs.”

The E.ON management board member also noted that the company is now aiming to take the top spot in Germany, as far as energy storage providers goes — and that it was a natural progression for the company after it spun off various operating arms in order to focus more heavily on renewables and energy storage.

The principal owner of Solarwatt, Stefan Quandt, commented as well: “Earning the trust of Germany’s largest energy supplier indicates the success of our product innovation, which has taken us from being a manufacturer of solar modules to being a provider of system solutions.”

This announcement follows, unsurprisingly, closely on the announcement that the government in Germany was extending its solar PV + energy storage system subsidy, until at least 2018.
