One of the top selling “gadget magazines” in the UK, Stuff, has named the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine as the “Stuff Gadget Awards 2015 Car of the Year,” according to recent reports.

The Volvo offering beat out the Audi RS3, the Tesla Model S P85D, the Toyota Mirai, the Ariel Nomad, the Volkswagen Golf R, and the Range Rover Sport SVR to win the award — so, pretty tough competition, overall.

Volvo

The deputy editor for the Stuff.tv website, Tom Parsons, commented: “Safe, stylish and a dream to drive, the new XC90 is a tech-toting titan that’s both swift and economical, with smarts to make a genius jealous and genuinely useful on-the-road driver aids.”

Motoroids provides more:

The XC90 T8 is at the cutting edge of Volvo’s innovative transformation, highlighting a capable petrol motor with an electric engine to furnish dynamic execution with remarkable productivity and natural accreditations.

Obviously, it is pressed with innovation, as well, including a nine-inch touchscreen data and excitement framework. This is no customary touchscreen set-up, however, in light of the fact that it incorporates squeeze and zoom and swipe usefulness, so really offers the ease of use and accommodation of a tablet-style interface.

…Another earth shattering component is the Volvo On Call application. Standard on each XC90, this permits you to remotely bolt and open the auto, check whether the entryways and windows are shut, and get to the auto’s excursion PC data. It additionally gives the area of your XC90 on a guide, and permits you to sound the auto’s horn and glimmer its headlights – impeccable on the off chance that you’ve overlooked where you abandoned it in a busy car park. It even uses the car’s GPS to track your XC90 on the off chance that it is stolen and will consequently alarm the emergency services in case you’re included in a mischance.

All of that sounds pretty high-tech (and useful), making the fact that the model ended up beating out the Tesla P85D make a little bit of sense. I have a feeling, though, that the falcon wings might clinch things for the Model X in next year’s competition.
