The ever-popular Nest Learning Thermostat has now reached its third generation, with the new model being revealed this week.

Nest-3Nest, the company which has almost single-handedly reimagined the common thermostat (at least, according to public awareness and taste) this week revealed the 3rd generation Nest Learning Thermostat, replete with a bundle of new features that the company hopes will only increase the thermostat’s popularity and benefit.

Already having saved over 4 billion kWh of energy in millions of homes around the world since 2011, the Nest Thermostat has also won numerous awards for its design and functionality. Navigant Research identified Nest as one of two companies leading home energy management vendors, and one of two companies leading the way for smart thermostats specifically.

The new thermostat will feature a slimmer, and sleek, new design, and come with a 40% larger, brighter, and higher-resolution screen, allowing users to view Nest information from almost anywhere in the room. Specifically, the new design will come with a feature called Farsight, which, in making use of the new display, will display target temperatures, an analogue or digital clock, or other features, easily visible from across the room.

News of a third generation Nest Learning Thermostat was originally announced back in September, but a new blog post on the company’s website has revealed a raft of new features that will be integrated into the new design.

Nest-2The new thermostat will now come with hot water control, allowing you to manage your hot water system through the Nest Learning Thermostat. The device will come with a built-in preset for managing your hot water schedule, but you can always modify it through the Nest app if necessary, allowing you to increase your hot water system’s efficiency for when you might have extra guests (or just an extra need for extra showers), or turn off the system entirely if you’re going away for a few days.

The Nest Learning Thermostat will also come with OpenTherm technology, which works with compatible boilers to run your heating system more efficiently. Nest describe the feature as “like a dimmer for your heating system versus an on-off switch.”

The new thermostat is also more intelligent, able to learn from your regular patterns and program itself if need be, to continually increase its chances of saving you money on your electricity and heating bills.

The new Nest Learning Thermostat can be ordered today.
