Apple, Microsoft, and Google are part of 113 companies that make up CDP’s 2015 Climate A List, a list of companies identified as making strong actions to mitigate climate change.

The list is part of not-for-profit organization CDP’s annual Climate Change Report, released this week. Nearly 2,000 companies submitted information to be independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology, with only 113 making the A-grade list — featuring the three largest companies by market capitalization, Apple, Microsoft, and Google, among many others.

“The influence of the corporation is mighty,” said Paul Dickinson, CDP’s executive chairman and co-founder. “The momentum of business action on climate change suggests we have reached a tipping point, where companies are poised to achieve their full potential. They need ambitious policy at both a national and international level that will support them in this regard and will catalyze participation from industry at scale.”

CDP’s Global Climate Change Report 2015 “offers analysis of the current state of the corporate response to the causes of global warming.”

“The case for corporate action on climate change has never been stronger and better understood,” the authors of the report write. “With the scientific evidence of manmade climate change becoming ever more incontrovertible, leading companies and their investors increasingly recognize the strategic opportunity presented by the transition to a low-carbon global economy.”

The report also found that nine out of ten companies now have activities in place that are intended to, and are succeeding at, lowering the company’s carbon output. This compares with less than half of companies in 2010, showing the recent trend towards sustainable awareness that has exploded over recent years.

“We must take swift and bold action to address the root causes of climate change,” said Meg Whitman, President and CEO at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, formerly Hewlett-Packard, which also has achieved A List status this year. “This means disrupting the status quo – changing the way we do business, holding ourselves and others accountable, and creating innovative solutions that drive a low-carbon economy.”
