Wonderful New Tesla Fan Commercial
Originally published on EV Obsession.
It’s hard to call this the best Tesla fan commercial yet since it doesn’t really highlight any of the Tesla Model S’s awesome features (other than it’s cool look). “Gallons of Light” was certainly an awesome commercial that is hard to compete with. But hey, it’s not about competing — it’s about putting one block on top of another to build an awesome electric castle… er, something like that (I have a baby and spend a lot of time playing with blocks).
Without any more rambling, though, let’s get to the goods:
Tesla – Fireflies from Sam O’Hare on Vimeo.
Stunning, eh? That just makes you want to learn more. That makes you want to touch and see and test out the Model S.
GM and Ford could really learn something from this fan. But here’s the real footnote for GM and Ford: this is a freakin’ fan commercial! Tesla fans are making insanely awesome commercials for its electric works of art… free of charge. Tesla is in another league right now.
But seriously, do GM & Ford not have the resources to compete with Tesla on the engineering front?
I assume they do. I think this is the real issue Big Auto is so far behind.
Full Disclosure: I’m a huge fan of fireflies (they’re one of my favorite things) and I’m long TSLA, for obvious reasons.

Saying GM and Ford need to compete with Tesla is “apples and oranges”. Tesla S is absolutely the coolest car in the world. No question, I completely and totally love it.
BUT! Tesla is currently in a price bracket with high end Porsche and Mercedes. GM, and Ford have never seriously tried to compete in that market. They have such high overhead the can’t make money on anything that is not a mass market car. In fact they really only make money on trucks and SUVs with all the goodies. Everything else is just to get people into the brand with the hope they’ll “move up” some day.
GM and Ford are doing what they need to do working out the bugs in Volts, and Energi mass market cars. Remember 2/3 of all car sales are used cars. A used Volt or Energi C-Max is affordable for most people like me. But, even a used Tesla is beyond my wildest dreams.
Please stop asking mass market cos. to compete with Tesla. Dogs are dogs, and cats are cats. Urging cats to be like dogs is … I’m not sure what – pointless?

The Tesla S is a mid-priced car. A cat among the expensive dogs… ;o)
Well, the Porsche is a tiny bit quicker 0-60.
Cadillac and Lincoln are still part of GM and Ford.
3 out of 6 Caddy’s start under $40K, another 2 of 6 Cadillacs start under $50K. The 6th starts at $72K. Tesla starts where Caddy ends.

4 out of 6 Lincolns start under $40K, one under $50K, and the highest starts at $60K. Lincoln’s highest cost car starts $10K below Tesla’s lowest cost.

Sure, you can have them gold plated and go “See! See! Same as Tesla – neener-neener” but you are convincing only yourself.
If GM and Ford had to depend on Caddy and Lincoln they’d go out of business. Sales of Ford F-150s and Chevy Silverados keep the lights on.
Michael, you claimed –
“Tesla is currently in a price bracket….. GM, and Ford have never seriously tried to compete in that market.”
I gave you multiple examples of GM and Ford vehicles priced as high, and much higher, than Tesla’s offerings. Ford is manufacturing a $400,000 car. Four times as expensive as a Tesla.
Aren’t you able to say “Oops” when you’re wrong and move on?
For heaven’s sake are you saying a few gold-plated Ford’s mean they are seriously competing with Porsche and Mercedes?
I wrote: “GM, and Ford have never seriously tried to compete in that market”
That doesn’t mean they don’t make an occasional car to get in the news or give their engineering dept. something to play with or draw dad into the showroom so they can sell mom on the minivan. My statement as I wrote it is correct.
For heaven’s sake I’m saying that what you posted was incorrect. GM and Ford sell cars in the same price range as Tesla.
That means that they are competing in the same market. Competing for the same buyers who have $70k to $120k that they are willing to spend on a car.
Furthermore, Tesla is not ” currently in a price bracket with high end Porsche and Mercedes”. The most expensive Tesla S is very much cheaper than the high end Mercedes and Porsches.
The Ford Taurus at $27,000 is a Tesla killer.
Can you just see it?
I think if you look close at the car, you will notice it is not a model S! It is smaller. This maybe a clever way of giving a sneak peak at the Model 3 prototype design which will have a base price of $35K. Compete with BMW 3 series. Certainly affordable to a much larger % of the auto market!
last week I bought a brand new McLaren F1 after making $19427 this-past/4 weeks and-over, 18-k this past-munth . this is actually the coolest work I have ever had . I began this 3 months ago and straight away started making a cool at least $97 per-hour . Learn More At

What about “Nozzie”? (YouTube it). Still my favorite, although this one is certainly the most beautiful. Sam O’Hare is a true artist. I love his newer Model S design, too. Elon & Franz: take note!
Yes, I liked the look of that car. Maybe a Model 3? 😀
Yeah, that’s a good one I forgot about. Here for the lazy among us (which is probably all of us 😀 ):

For how many other companies have owners made commercials for what they own?
I don’t recall seeing any. 😀
Beautiful
it look like tesla model s was teleported from the future or something by those electric fireflies
I thought the fireflies were going to convert the old gas station into a TESLA super charger with attached dinner. Then the TESLA would pull up for a re-charge, driver grab a burger, notice time flying and jump back in and be on the way.
Maybe in the sequel. 😀
**But seriously, do GM & Ford not have the resources to compete with Tesla on the engineering front? ***
Maybe not. VW/Audi may be taking a 30 billion $ hit, so they will be struggling to pay their engineers. Apple has 200 billion $ in cash reserves. What are they planning? Cars are not a high margin business and there are going to be fewer of them due the confluence of autonomous vehicles and the sharing economy. Why would Apple be getting into it? Maybe it’s a Cook ego project.
I think Apple/Google both are looking at the sharing economy and thinking driver-less. Yes that is still a ways of, regulations, insurance, and what not. Also note that both are software companies with hardware experience, which is where TESLA started. It really is a different mind set from the big car manufactures. Been in mechanical software 35 years, and even working with their software departments you see the difference in mind set.
A gazillion dollar car powered by batteries made by Chinese child labor from the most toxic chemicals on earth. Truly the new American imperialist’s machine.
Any evidence on the child labour? Chinese children are few and cosseted. They are forced to work hard – in school.
Awesome, Gorgeous!
