UEFA Champions League Final In Berlin Using 100+ Electric Vehicles From Nissan

Originally published on EV Obsession.

Nissan will be pulling out all the stops for the upcoming UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Champions League soccer/football final in Berlin tomorrow — with regard to electric vehicles anyways — as part of its partnership with the noted sports competition and organization.

The company will reportedly be supplying more than 100 zero emission vehicles (mostly LEAFs and e-NV200s) to UEFA + associated sponsors in order to assist in the transport of guests + officials during the activity surrounding the finals — which are set for June 6, 2015.

In addition, Nissan will be installing 129 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the area around Tegel International Airport, near high-traffic Berlin hotels, and near the Olympiastadion.

“The Final in Berlin will mark the climax of year one of Nissan’s partnership with the UEFA Champions League,” stated Bastien Schupp, vice president, Marketing for Nissan Europe. “The partnership has enabled us to highlight our commitment to EVs and bring to life our brand values of Innovation and Excitement. I’m especially pleased that the great relationship we have with UEFA has enabled us to do something lasting and positive for the people of Berlin with the installation of more EV charging points, adding to Nissan’s network, which is already the biggest in Europe.”

Respected veteran Marco van Basten is apparently working with Nissan as an ambassador during the finals. He commented: “It’s fantastic that Nissan is keeping football fans at the core of their celebrations around the UEFA Champions League. There are some great activities and games involving the fans, and it will really help to add to the electrifying atmosphere around the Final.”

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
