Florida Power & Light Solar Rebate Sells Out Completely In 3 Minutes
The Florida-based utility company Florida Power & Light (FPL) recently — on the morning of January 14 — launched the online-portal for its new rebate program/lottery. All rebate funds were claimed in just 3 minutes….
To be precise, residential solar rebate funds were all claimed/allocated in under 30 seconds, and all business solar rebates within under 3 minutes.
The rapid speed at which these were claimed certainly says something about the state of desire for solar energy in the Sunshine State — I wonder why? (Hint hint)
“There are very clear financial benefits in solar energy,” stated Ray Johnson, of Florida Solar One. “We have been completely flooded with requests to help home and business owners go solar; it is crystal clear that solar is what the people of Florida want.”
Given the fact that a substantial federal tax credit (of 30%) is available to those that install solar energy systems this year, this year is looking likely to see a notable uptick in the adoption of solar energy systems in the state.
Given the very substantial solar energy potential in Florida (with regard to levels of solar insolation), the state really should possess greater solar capacity (and adoption amongst the off-grid crowd) than it does currently.
Of course, considering the rather hostile legislative environment in the state with regard to solar energy (and many other things) the slow uptake isn’t surprising. And, for that matter, Rick Scott isn’t exactly a bastion of liberty (and has a history of working with convicted fraudsters it bears reminding) — so who knows what’s going on behind the scenes exactly.
The recent rebate by FPL is good news though — and will hopefully help to spur faster solar development in the state.
