Because basically everything Elon Musk tweets is worth writing about, and because the Tesla Gigafactory is probably the biggest cleantech story of the year (or the decade?), here’s the latest speck of news: the street where the Gigafactory will be located is to be called Electric Avenue. Here’s the actual tweet:
Official Gigafactory address to be: Electric Avenue, McCarran, Nevada
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 11, 2014
Nice. Presumably, that references this song:
Or it’s just a coincidence… but knowing Elon, I’d assume he did that on purpose.
Always having fun. That’s the way to save the world, isn’t it?
And for anyone who says Tesla doesn’t advertise, it’s time to wake up and realize that it advertises in a very effective 21st-century way. Elon actually uses his Twitter account, rather than sticking a social media company on it. He tantalizes and plays. People love it and the humble man is now approaching 1 million followers.
Because many of the replies on Twitter were quite funny and clever, I figured I’d go ahead and share some of those too:
@elonmusk I hope there will be an area with picnic tables, etc., named Battery Park.

@elonmusk With everything else you had to factor in, it’s great that you could find a place on Electric Avenue.

@elonmusk Instead of one-way and two-way streets, you should call them AC and DC.

I don't like paywalls. You don't like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don't like paywalls, and so we've decided to ditch ours. Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It's a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp — grow. So ...
