Gamesa recently announced two new US & Mexico wind projects, boosting its presence in the Americas.

The Spanish wind turbine manufacturer is supplying two new orders totaling 290 MW, according to its website.

Gamesa will work with EDP Renovalvels (EDPR) to supply 95 of its G114-2.0MW at the Waverly Wind Farm located in Coffey, Kansas.

The third quarter of 2015 will see the turbines delivered to the Kansas location. Power will be up and running by the end of that same year.

Already, Gamesa has equipped 4,000 MW and serviced 1,400 MW of US wind power. Both companies agreed to put up 450 MW of wind power by 2014 in the US.

Meanwhile, Mexico is adding 100 MW to a major utility. A central Mexican wind farm will see fifty G97-2.0 MW turbines installed by the end of 2015. By the end of 2015, the project will be up and running. Currently, Gamesa is the largest turbine manufacturer in the country.

Gamesa has a firm hand in the Latin American wind turbine market. It has equipped 1,067 MW and maintains 873 MW. It runs 250 MW of total Mexican wind power capacity, while planning an additional 70 MW.

Clearly, there is room to grow for Gamesa in the Latin American wind energy market, and in the Americas in general. The US finished in 2014 second in total cumulative global wind power capacity with 61 GW or 19.2% of the market share. However, only 1 GW of new US wind capacity was added, 3.1% of the global market in 2013.  Uncertainty with the US Wind Production Tax Credit contributed to the sharp downfall in installations.

Meanwhile, Mexico is aiming for 1.2 GW of installed wind capacity by 2022, an advance of 1 GW from 2014, the GWEC noted.

With strong potential in Mexico and Canada, plus never counting out the US to have a rebound in building new wind capacity, Gamesa might very well be primed to take further market share in North America, plus building within the rest of the Americas, too.
