Yingli Green Energy* (aka Yingli Solar) is now the third-biggest Chinese brand in Germany, according to a recent study undertaken by Huawei.

According to the study — which was completed in cooperation with the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies and TNS Emnid — Yingli Solar came in with a 17% slice of the pie, behind Lenovo, at 30%, and Huawei, at 21%.

The findings are the result of interviews with 2600 different people — including “200 top economic decision-makers, 100 policy-makers, and 1000 random respondents in both Germany and China.”

“Our strong position as a top PV module supplier in Germany underlines once more that our long-term investment in our brand, customer base, products, and employees has paid dividends demonstrating our commitment to the European market even during challenging times,” stated Mr Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy.

As a side note, Yingli’s profile was probably raised somewhat via its sponsorship of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and again this year’s ongoing World Cup in Brazil. It’ll be interesting to see what the ripple effects of this year’s sponsorship are in the coming months.

In related news, Yingli also recently announced that it will be supplying 12 MW worth of solar PV modules to Gading Kencana Sdn Bhd, a leading solar energy company in Malaysia.

The solar modules will be used in the creation of an 8 MW solar farm in Malacca — with the plan being for the other 4 MW of panels to be used in “a second project phase, which will be dedicated to residential installations across Malaysia.”

*Full Disclosure: I own stock in Yingli Green Energy.
