As reported earlier this month, India is celebrating reaching 2,600 MW of installed solar power capacity, “thanks to the comprehensive and ambitious National Solar Mission,” amidst other factors.

However, despite the massive attention the National Solar Mission receives each month, solar isn’t the only big winner in India’s aim towards a renewable energy future.

Wind power giant, Gamesa, announced on Tuesday that they had reached 1,000 MW of commissioned capacity in India since it began manufacturing in the country four years ago.

“Thanks to a broad product range, tailored to the market’s specifics, and the company’s experience and know-how as wind farm developer, Gamesa has managed to establish itself as the country’s leading OEM, with a particularly strong position among independent wind energy products,” said Ramesh Kymal, President and Business CEO of Gamesa’s Indian operations.

According to BTM Consult, the self-proclaimed “premier forecaster and data source for the international wind industry” and a part of Navigant Research, Gamesa was the top-ranked OEM in India in 2013, reaching a market share of 19%. This was the first time Gamesa outperformed local manufacturer Suzlon.

India emerged as Asia’s second largest — and the world’s third largest — market in 2013 in terms of capacity installed, reaching 1,987 MW in 2013.

Mridul Chadha reported earlier this month on India’s solar growth, noting that “the 56% increase in installed solar capacity witnessed in FY2013-14 was mainly due to projects commissioned under the state solar policies and the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) scheme.”

But if Gamesa’s performance within the wind industry is anything to count your chickens by, I’m looking forward to reading India’s wind industry statistics soon.
